Rory Fink / Retroflective / May 16 – June 02 2012
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
– William Wordsworth
The luminous and iridescent images of Melbourne based artist Rory Fink highlight man’s influence and desire to interfere with nature. By the introduction of purpose built mirrored structures Rory hopes to impart a new perspective of the Australian landscape. Rory’s work is influenced by the eternal strength, purity and beauty of nature.
“These mirrored structures are a link to our influence on nature. Though what they reflect back suggests our dominion over nature may be superficial” – Rory Fink
From 2000 – 2002, Rory completed his Bachelor of Arts in Photography, at RMIT University, Melbourne. After completion he travelled to the UK and then Sydney where he spent several years working in the fashion photography industry. He has worked with some of the biggest names and brands in fashion and advertising over the past 10 years.
Two years ago Rory was able to finally leave the commercial photography world to return to his home town of Melbourne and once again work on artistic endeavours full time. Moving towards an environmental focus his work has a lot to do with the finite aspect of nature.
