Marcus Thomson / Speed Week / May 07 – 31 2014

Every February or March, they turn off the A1 outside Port Augusta in their hundreds, and drive down the 200 kilometre dirt road to Lake Gairdner, South Australia for Speed Week. They’re from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common – the love of speed.

Enduring hours of sizzling heat, rugged conditions, petrol fumes and roaring engines, the contenders wait their turn to try for a speed record in their cars, bikes and hot rods.

This exhibition explores the relationship between the die-hard speed freaks and the arid, unforgiving salt lake.
