Arini Byng & Georgia Hutchison / Adult Contemporary / November 26 – December 20 2014
Adult Contemporary extends on the collaborative practice of Arini Byng and Georgia Hutchison. Through an open-ended enquiry of sampling, combining and collapsing material elements, the work negotiates the contemporary still life oeuvre. Manipulating haphazard encounters of surface-light-thing, Byng and Hutchison engage with the gestures found within the photography studio.
Georgia Hutchison is an artist, designer and educator, working within the contemporary creative and critical concerns surrounding the design industry. Arini Byng works with both the concrete material particularities of things and their symbolic, poetic and representational properties. Her practice explores the limits of painting, materiality and the activity of making.
Collectively, Hutchison and Byng have exhibited across Australia and internationally including NGV, MoMA and Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, Los Angeles. Their work has been published widely, including an artist book, Moved Objects, by Perimeter Editions in 2013. Their work is held by GOMA, NGV, MONA and private collections in Australia and internationally.
